(and pssst … it features one design by lillelarsen)
I am so excited to share with you one of the big moments of this year for me, as a knitting pattern designer, the selection and publication of one of my designs by Pom Pom, one of my very rare submissions to be accepted, so you can imagine how amazing that feels to me. And if you’ve read my previous blog post about the emotional ups and downs of actually submitting my work anywhere, you’ll probably understand why this is such a big deal for me.
So what is it all about? Earlier this year, Pom Pom launched a call for submission for knitting patterns for, among others, a new yarn it was designing in collaboration with Hobbii. My design was selected (yay!) and with a very tight deadline, I wrote up the pattern and knit the sample for the Adorned sweater. The theme of the collection was “garland”, which gave me the starting point for the pattern. Since I love simple designs where you play with knits and purls, creating different effects, I used this basic idea to create an impression of a garland along the top of the yoke. The bubbles add to the fun and festive part, and suggest a celebration that is easy, light and fun.
The most surrealistic part is now seeing the sweater that I knit now in these gorgeous pictures from a professional photo shoot (not quite like the “photo sessions” at home involving me calling quickly to one of my teens for 10 minutes of their time to snap a few pictures, only realizing that my hair looks horrible, that I’m not wearing make up, and at least a 1.000 other flaws that I hate seeing in my pictures).
And if you head over to their website, you’ll see all the gorgeous designs featured in their Garland Autumn Pattern Collection, which are all : free!
What you need to know about the “Adorned” knitting pattern
Actually, this is an ideal pattern for newish knitters, that like :
no-sewing together of bits and pieces (meaning body and sleeves)
all in one piece
top-down design, which means it is adjustable to your liking for lower body and sleeves
a super simple yoke pattern
simple techniques : knits, purls, bobbles (they are explained), increases and decreases
knitting in the round
a free pattern!
Another definite plus is that the yarn is extremely soft and nice to knit AND it is worked on quite large needles (4.5 mm / US 7) meaning : less time needed!
About the Garland yarn collection
The Garland yarn created by PomPomxHobbii is a 70% cotton – 30 % alpaca blend, which makes it a nice alternative for knitters (or wearers) that are looking for a yarn that has the effect of mohair, but without the mohair. It’s slightly fuzzy but at the same time, make for a great stitch definition, which you will be able to see in the designs offered in the collection. A slight shimmer gives it a bit of a glamorous touch, and, let’s be honest : who doesn’t need a bit of sparkle and glamour in their lives? If you want to read more about the creative process itself of designing this new yarn, head over to Pom Pom’s website to read all about it.
Happy knitting!
