Free Knitting Pattern: Cashmere Skinny Scarf – Quick Gift Knit

Sometimes the best ideas don’t come at the desk, but in the middle of a wool market (or in the shower, or on your car drive…). Back in late spring, while working with Woolinspires at the Auersmacher Wollfest, I stumbled across a yarn combination that made my heart skip: a soft neutral dotted with confetti sprinkles paired with a vibrant pink in Cardiff Cashmere Classic. It wasn’t planned at all, but I knew right then I had to design something with it.

Since cashmere is a little more on the luxurious side, I wanted to keep things simple and budget-friendly: just two skeins. No more, no less. Enough to indulge in this incredible yarn without breaking the bank.

And so, the Cashmere Skinny Scarf knitting pattern was born.

Why this yarn inspired the pattern

This scarf uses Cardiff Cashmere Classic, a 100% cashmere yarn that’s as soft and decadent as it sounds. It comes in small skeins (25 g / 112 m), making it perfect for mixing and matching colours.

For my version, I used:

  • Main Colour: 303 Touch (a soft neutral) – 1 skein
  • Contrast Colour: 662 Marylin (a bold pink) – 1 skein

This free knitting pattern is especially great if you want to make the most of leftover yarns or finally use that single skein of hand-dyed cashmere you’ve been saving for the perfect project.

A beginner-friendly skinny scarf knitting pattern

The Cashmere Skinny Scarf is definitely not rocket science — it’s simple, fun, and quick to knit. The design is a long, narrow scarf (about 125 x 30 cm) that you can wrap once or twice around your neck.

I knit mine with only one-third in the bright pink, but you can experiment: half-and-half, bold stripes, or just a few accent rows at the ends. This is an easy scarf knitting pattern that leaves plenty of room for creativity.

And the best part? With only two skeins, it’s the perfect quick knitted gift. You can finish it in just a few evenings, making it ideal for last-minute presents (there are still a few weeks until Christmas… just saying!).

Customisation ideas

This skinny scarf design is as versatile as it gets:

  • Stash-friendly: Combine small leftovers into a unique striped version.
  • Luxury on a budget: Splurge on one skein of cashmere for contrast, and pair it with a more affordable main colour. Or make it with three or four strands of mohair!
  • Colour play: Go bold with neon, keep it subtle with monochrome, or dive into your stash and let it surprise you.
